Having Trouble With Online Therapy? 5 Reasons Why That Can Happen

Therapy

Online therapy is a very convenient and easy-to-use platform for people who need mental health services. These websites are accessible and their therapy offerings are affordable. However, some people don’t get the results they want from online therapy and struggle to get through the sessions. There are many reasons why online therapy can be less effective for some patients. Here’s a look at some of them:

1. Wrong Platform

There are many online therapy websites out there and all of them are not made equal. Some platforms have a big team of great therapists that specialize in different fields. Other platforms only have a small group of therapists with limited experience or qualifications. It is important to choose the platform carefully to ensure you get the best possible support.

2. Unsuitable Method of Communication

Online therapy platforms like eTherapy Pro provide different communication options. You can talk to a therapist through chat, voice calls, or even video calls. It is important to choose the medium of communication that suits you the best. Some people are very concerned about their privacy and choose text-based therapy, which is a valid option but not suitable for everyone. Pick a medium that works for you and allows you to communicate effectively.

3. A Bad Schedule

Consistency is an important aspect of therapy. If you attend sessions consistently and follow the advice offered by the therapist, you’ll be more likely to succeed. Flexibility is one of the biggest advantages of online therapy. You can schedule sessions at any time at your convenience. But this flexibility means that people have the freedom to be inconsistent. They can leave long gaps between sessions or cancel some, which can diminish the effectiveness. The best way to avoid this problem is to set up a proper schedule and stick with it.

4. Distractions

Attending sessions from your home can save time, money, and ensure you’re comfortable in your safe space. However, your home is also more likely to have distractions like children, pets, and other family members. If you’re constantly distracted during the online therapy session, it won’t be very successful. That’s one of the reasons why it is important to ensure everyone around you knows not to disturb you unless it is urgent.

5. Not Taking it Seriously

Some patients don’t take online therapy as seriously as they take regular face-to-face therapy. The convenient and informal approach often encourages clients to be laxer in their participation. Therapy requires equal contribution from both the therapist and the patient. Unless you are actively invested in the discussions during therapy, you won’t see any results. It is also important to apply the expert’s recommendation to your day-to-day life.

Sometimes clients put in 100% effort and therapy still doesn’t work out for them. In these cases, it is best to explore other options. Fortunately, online platforms like eTherapy Pro provide free sessions so you can experiment with the platform to see whether it works for you. That saves money and helps reduce stress.

How to Prepare for Difficult Online Therapy Sessions

Difficult online therapy sessions

Therapy can be a difficult journey and some sessions are more hard-hitting than others. If you know you’re going to face a difficult online session, it is a good idea to be prepared and get yourself into a healthy headspace before it. eTherapy Pro recommends the tips mentioned below to help clients get through difficult sessions and benefit from the discussion with their counselor.

1. Drink and Eat

Clients often neglect food and water when they are anxious and know they’re facing a difficult session. Make sure you’re hydrated and have had a light but flavorful meal sometime before the session. Both of these things will help you relax and place you in the right mood. It is also a good idea to keep a water bottle by your side during the session, especially if you choose to speak on the phone or video conference with your therapist.

2. Remove Distractions

Distractions can interfere with your therapy and make you feel even more anxious. It can also become an excuse that you will be tempted to use to avoid any difficult conversations. Make sure your phone is on silent, warn your family, friends, and colleagues that you will be busy for an hour or so, and find an isolated place where you can attend the session in privacy. The fewer distractions you have, the faster you can process the topic and move on.

3. Commit to the Conversation

Delaying difficult conversations will only cause more harm in the long run and slow down your recovery process. It is easier to just get it out of the way and emerge on the other side with a more settled mindset. While you don’t need to force yourself to commit to something you’re not ready for, it is also important to find a way to become ready for it. For example, people who are struggling with domestic abuse need to confront many difficult situations and choices. Putting these conversations off can stop them from getting the help they need quickly and that can cause even more problems down the line.

4. Make Sure You Have Support

You need to take care of yourself after the session is complete as well. At eTherapy Pro, we recommend spending some time with a trusted loved one or chatting with a friend after a difficult conversation. Just cuddling up with your bestie or partner can have a big impact on your mood. Don’t shy away from asking for help and getting the support you need. That will only help speed up your recovery significantly and ensure you are on the right track when it comes to mental health. Spend time doing something fun and distracting to balance your mood and make your day more positive.

If you want to know more about eTherapy Pro or wish to try online therapy sessions, visit our website today. The first few days are free so you can try the service and determine if it is the right choice for you.

5 Reasons Why Online Therapy is a Good Choice for LGBTQ Individuals

Online Therapy for LGBTQ

Modern society has progressed significantly when it comes to LGBTQ rights and recognitions but that doesn’t mean LGBTQ individuals don’t struggle or face challenges because of their sexual orientation. In fact, many experience serious mental health issues because of problems stemming from their orientation and people’s reactions to it. At eTherapy Pro, we recommend therapy for LGBTQ individuals to help them process these complicated feelings and situations. Here’s a look at some reasons why online therapy is a good idea for you:

1. Accessibility

Unlike traditional therapy, online therapy is very accessible. You can get access to professionals with experience in LGBTQ issues easily instead of settling for therapists who don’t understand these issues or specialize in them. You’re not stuck with the limited options available in your town or city and can easily explore therapists from different parts of the country.

2. Privacy and Anonymity

Many LGBTQ individuals are in the closet, which means they haven’t revealed their sexual orientation to anyone. Some hide their orientation because they don’t want to face scrutiny from society while others hide it to avoid being bullied or excommunicated. People living in such environments are definitely in need of therapy for LGBTQ. Online therapy offers complete privacy. You can attend sessions from your bedroom, school library, local café, or a trusted friend’s house. You don’t even need to reveal your identity to your therapist, which helps people feel more comfortable during sessions.

3. Affordability

Online therapy is more affordable compared to traditional options because the overhead costs are lower. You can save a lot of money on such a platform, especially if you live in expensive locations where these services tend to cost more money. Patients also save money on commute and transportation as they don’t need to drive to the therapist’s office or use public transport to get there.

4. Access to Good Therapists

Online platforms like eTherapy Pro offer access to a wide range of professionals with different specializations. It is easier to find an expert that offers tailored therapy for LGBTQ instead of settling for counselors with no specialized skill in the field. Some of the more remote and conservative towns may not provide the most current and reliable therapy, instead of pushing outdated and disproven solutions that cure LGBTQ individuals. With online platforms, you can get access to up-to-date, science-based therapy to help you understand and accept yourself.

5. Suitable for Individuals in Unsafe Environments

Platforms like eTherapy Pro help people in unsafe environments. If you have parents, siblings, or friends, or live in communities that don’t accept LGBTQ individuals, you may not be able to get safe access to therapy. Online therapy is safer and more beneficial than skipping counseling completely.

As you can see, there are several reasons why you should consider getting online therapy for LGBTQ. Platforms like eTherapy Pro offer free sessions for the first few days so you can test the service out before committing to it.

Online Therapy For Couples

Anxiety

Problems can happen in any relationship and seeking help to fix them isn’t a weakness. Many couples need a neutral third party to help them resolve their differences and get on the journey of healing. Online Therapy is one of the best ways to do that. Establishments like eTherapy Pro provide easy and discreet access to top-notch mental health services. You can speak with a therapist alone or attend a couple’s session with your partner to address the issues. Here’s a look at how couple’s therapy works on an online platform:

1. Etherapy Pro provides promising social

The first step is to fill out a form on the eTherapy Pro website. The form has around 10-15 questions and doesn’t take too much time to fill. Consider the questions carefully and answer them honestly because the therapists are provided based on the details from the form.

The form is anonymous and all of the information is private so only your therapist will know of its contents. You don’t need to share any personal details and continue to attend sessions anonymously.

2. Get a Therapist

Once the form is submitted, you will get a therapist assigned to you within a day or two. Most therapists contact their prospective patients within a day so you should be able to get in touch quickly. Once the therapist has contacted you, they will ask a few more questions about your preferred mode of communication, concerns, schedule, etc.

These therapists are trusted professionals with the right qualifications and a good track record. While they can’t prescribe any pharmaceuticals, they can provide a wide range of mental health assistance.

3. Free Session

Platforms like eTherapy Pro provide free online sessions to new clients. You can get the first few days of therapy free of cost. This means you can discuss the different options, speak with your therapist, and see whether the platform is suitable for you before making an informed decision regarding your therapy.

Take full advantage of these free sessions to determine whether online therapy is a good choice for you and your partner. You can attend a few sessions alone and a few sessions with your partner to see how it works out.

4. Suitable for Long Distance Relationships

Online therapy is great for long-distance relationships as well because you can attend couple’s sessions together even if you are living in different regions of the world. Modern communications technology makes it easier for people to speak or video conference in real-time.

Attending sessions together can help couples who are separated by distance and are facing problems as well. Therapists can provide ways to improve communication, establish good routines to nurture a long-distance relationship, and resolve conflicts peacefully.

Online therapy is accessible, affordable, and discreet, which are some of the reasons why it has become popular in recent years. You can get access to good therapy even if you are in quarantine or have to deal with social distancing mandates. Accessibility makes platforms like eTherapy Pro a great alternative to traditional forms of therapy.

Things to Consider Before Choosing Online Therapy

Anxiety

For individuals interested in online therapy, there are only a few concerns specific to online therapy; most of what should go into the decision applies to regular therapy too.

When deciding if online therapy is right, it may be useful to consider how comfortable with using technology to communicate the interested person is. While the tools used by e-therapists are generally simple, secure, and easy-to-use, some people just aren’t comfortable either with the technology itself, or the idea of communicating remotely. There are people who don’t even like talking over the phone, or who have never used video chat to communicate. Although e-therapy is generally understood to be as effective as face-to-face therapy, there will always be some people who are inherently uncomfortable with the format. Interestingly, younger generations have expressed that they may be more likely to want to communicate via live chat than face-to-face, illustrating a wide generational shift in comfort with using these kinds of technologies for important conversations.

The bigger questions to consider before trying out e-therapy would apply to anyone seeking therapy in general. If possible, identify some main goals or primary problems that can be addressed by a professional counselor as a therapeutic goal. Examples would include struggling to cope with PTSD symptoms, learning new ways to live with anxiety, or working on becoming a better communicator with a spouse. That’s not to say that there must be a therapeutic goal, however. If the central issue is murky, that doesn’t mean you aren’t ready for therapy, just that it may take more time to get to the root of the problem. Next, to make sure that the therapy is as useful as possible, make sure you’re ready to discuss the issue(s) as openly and honestly as possible. Dishonesty fundamentally interferes with the therapeutic process, and being unwilling or unable to start working on changes will make the process more difficult.

On the other hand, you may be ready for therapy if you’re tired of living a certain way, if symptoms of an issue like depression have begun to interfere with other areas of life like work or home life, if your marriage is having problems, or if you simply feel ready to grow as a person. Those who are either struggling with substance abuse or are already sober may also find tremendous value in the support and insight of a professional.

E-therapy may be especially attractive for people with busy schedules, limited mobility or transportation, or those who have already tried to find a face-to-face therapist only to discover there isn’t one nearby who is taking new clients. For people looking for greater access to therapists for the same (or less) than the hourly rate traditionally charged by brick-and-mortar practices, e-therapy is also a great option. Finally, it is also a great choice for people who may simply want the convenience and privacy of being able to do counseling sessions from the comfort of his or her own home for whatever reason.
